TIP OF THE DAY — WHY YOU SHOULD REMOVE YOUR CAMERA BATTERY WHEN NOT IN USE

Taking care of your camera's battery can save you from unexpected issues and help your equipment last longer. Here's why you should make it a habit.

Leaving a battery in your camera when it’s not in use can lead to unnecessary risks that are easy to avoid.

Batteries can slowly drain over time, even when the camera is powered off, leaving you with a dead battery just when you need it most. More importantly, prolonged storage with the battery inside can lead to leakage, which may damage your camera's internal components—especially the battery compartment contacts.

To keep your camera safe and ready for action:

  • Remove the battery when storing your camera for extended periods.

  • Store batteries separately in a cool, dry place.

  • Check for corrosion before reinserting a battery.

If I’m not using my camera for a week, I always remove the batteries and store them in a battery pouch / holder or I simply keep them in a cool, dry place.

Additionally, I often check for corrosion in the connectors of the batteries.

Storing the battery inside for too long can cause leakage, potentially damaging your camera's internal components. This small habit keeps your gear protected and performing at its best.

As always, best of luck!
