SD CARDS VS. CF CARDS: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

When it comes to memory cards, you’ve likely come across two main types: SD (Secure Digital) and CF (Compact Flash). Both store your images, but there are a few key differences that might matter depending on your camera and workflow.

SIZE & COMPATIBILITY
SD cards are smaller and more common—most modern mirrorless and DSLR cameras use them. CF cards are larger and often used in higher-end or older professional cameras. Some newer cameras now use CF express cards, which are different from the older CF format.

SPEED
CF (and especially CF express) cards tend to offer faster read/write speeds. This matters most when you're shooting high-res files, rapid bursts, or 4K+ video. But high-speed SD cards have also come a long way and can handle most still photography needs.

DURABILITY
CF cards are generally more durable due to their solid build and pin-based connection, but they’re bulkier. SD cards are more compact but can be easier to damage if handled carelessly.

PRICE
CF and CF express cards are typically more expensive than SD cards. If you're not pushing your camera to the limits, a good SD card is often more than enough.

Bottom line, choose based on your camera’s slot and your needs. For most photography workflows, a fast SD card is simple and reliable. For intensive shooting or pro-level video, CF express might be worth the investment.

As always, best of luck!
