HOW TO USE THE AUTO FOCUS LOCK (AFL) CAMERA SETTING: A SIMPLE EXPLANATION

AFL (Auto Focus Lock) is a camera function that allows you to lock the focus on a specific subject, even if you re-frame the shot. This means the camera will maintain focus on the chosen point, ensuring your subject stays sharp regardless of any changes in composition.

The AFL function is particularly useful in scenarios where your subject is off-center or moving. By locking the focus, you can recompose your shot without losing the initial focus, resulting in clear and sharp images of your subject.

To use AFL, typically, you half-press the shutter button or use a dedicated AFL button, depending on your camera model. Once the focus is locked, you can re-frame the scene as needed while the focus remains on the chosen point.

The AFL function button will usually be found on the back of your camera.

Here is how to Use Auto Focus Lock (AFL):

1. Select Your Focus Point: Aim your camera at the subject or area you want to focus on.

2. Activate Auto Focus: Half-press the shutter button or press the AF-ON button (if your camera has one) to engage the auto focus system.

3. Lock the Focus: Once the camera has achieved focus, press and hold the AFL button (often labeled as AE-L/AF-L on many cameras) to lock the focus at that point. Some cameras might allow you to lock focus by holding down the half-pressed shutter button.

4. Recompose Your Shot: With the focus locked, you can now reframe your shot as desired. The focus will remain on the locked point, even if you move the camera.

5. Take the Photo: Fully press the shutter button to capture the image with the locked focus.

Using the AFL setting ensures that your subject remains sharply focused, even when you recompose the shot. This makes it ideal for capturing off-center or moving subjects with precision and clarity. I recommend giving this setting a try!

As always, best of luck!
