DEFINING GAS (GEAR ACQUISITION SYNDROME)

The term, GAS refers to the longing and or purchasing of newly released gear or equipment. GAS is a malady which affects most creators. From musicians to painters, film makers, and photographers, many creators admit being guilty of lusting after or purchasing a new piece of equipment with a false sense of what it can add to their work. The endless supply of photographic equipment in the market, coupled with dangling of newly released gear by content creators on the internet and or social media platforms, induces a sense of longing and belonging, thereby prompting the vicious cycle that is, GAS.

Certainly new gear is always exciting, potentially offering the opportunity to jump start creativity however, new gear does not always guarantee increased inspiration or improved or even yet, new work.  Ideally, creators should contemplate on how investing on any one piece of gear will benefit their work.  In the long run, will the investment improve productivity, inspiration or style.

Now, what piece of gear are you currently longing for?
