WHAT IS HDR IN PHOTOGRAPHY? HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE SIMPLIFIED

In photography, HDR stands for high dynamic range. It refers to the amount of contrast between the darkest and lightest areas of a photograph.

For example, our eyes can see a wide range of light, allowing us to notice both bright highlights and dark shadows at the same time. When the sun sets in a valley, we can see the sunlit peaks and the shadows in the valley.

However, cameras have a shorter dynamic range compared to our eyes, capturing fewer details in highlights and shadows. They struggle to balance photos with high contrast between dark and light areas.
