PACKING PHOTO GEAR FOR A FIVE DAY TRIP

Note: Commissions may be earned from the links below.

Packing photo gear for a five-day trip requires careful consideration to ensure you have everything you need without carrying unnecessary weight. Below is a suggested list of photo gear and accessories I am packing for my upcoming five day trip.

  • Camera and Lenses:

    • Sony camera.

    • 35mm prime lens. I will be traveling with my Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens.

A 35mm lens is great for a variety of genres and scenes. Additionally, a prime lens of 35mm offers me the opportunity to photograph in a variety of lighting conditions due to its flexible aperture of f/1.4.

  • Lens Filters:

    • An ND Filter for controlling exposure in bright conditions. I use Tiffen filters as they are readily available. Make sure to identify your lens’ diameter size prior to purchasing lens filters. (you can find the diameter size of a compatible filter on the edge of your lens, denoted by a number and symbol. Note: your lens diameter size is NOT a filter size. The filter size will be a smaller number.)

    • A Polarizer Filter for reducing reflections.

  • Camera Bag:

    • For this trip, I will not use a camera bag, instead, I am carrying my camera and lens plus accessories in a padded camera insert pouch which will go inside my personal backpack. I always makes sure to place my photographic equipment in padded pouches or bags with compartments for organization and protection.

  • Tripod:

    • I will carry my lightweight and compact Manfrotto Element tripod for stable shots, especially in low-light conditions or for long-exposure photography or family portraits. I have been using this tripod for quite some time, it is not heavy nor light. There are lighter options to be considered.

  • Memory Cards:

    • I will carry extra memory cards for backup. Currently, my go-to memory card brand is SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO they are fast and reliable for my photo use which consists of still photographs.

  • External Hard Drive or Cloud Storage:

    • I will carry a portable external hard drive to back up my photos regularly during the trip. I currently use the SanDisk 2TB Extreme drive An external hard drive or cloud storage ensures I don't run out of space on my memory cards.

  • Chargers and Batteries:

    • Chargers for my camera and other electronic devices are the first items I pack to avoid forgetting them. I will pack extra batteries and any other rechargeable accessories.

  • Photography Accessories:

    • Lens hood, lens caps, and any other accessories specific to my camera system.

    • Lens cleaning kit: Microfiber cloths, lens cleaning solution, and a blower.

  • Laptop or Tablet:

    • While this is a short leisure trip, I will carry my laptop to stay on top of work emails, blog posts and retouching.

  • Journal :

    • I have kept a journal for many years, specifically the Leuchtturm1917

A journal helps me stay grounded; it is where I will jot down to-do lists, photography ideas, inspirations, or any other notes during my trip.

Lastly, I test my gear before any trip to ensure everything is in working order. I test equipment before a trip and also every photoshoot! Additionally, I have gotten into the habit of making a list of gear I intend to travel with; a list ensures I am checking off everything to make sure I don’t forget anything. The list is tailored to specific needs, such as the type of photography I plan to do, the destination and consider the amount and weight of my gear to avoid over-packing to enjoy a hassle-free travel experience.

As always, best of luck!
